While the French Laundry caters to tourists in Yountville and Iron Chef Morimoto impresses foodies with fresh tuna flown every morning from Tokyo’s fish market, Carpe Diem—one of the latest additions to Napa’s rejuvenated food scene—mostly attracts the local hipster crowd with its unpretentious vibe and basic, good food.

Carpe Diem is the perfect place in the evening to hang out with friends and enjoy a glass of wine and small bites during their exceptionally value-priced happy hour.

The menu changes frequently and the fare is California and Mediterranean inspired. We liked some dishes better than others. Everything we tasted was good, but we wish they would push the envelope a bit more with the spices: the white bean dip and the mac and cheese signature dishes lacked depth of flavors. On the other hand, the salads were simply great.

But most importantly, the wine list is amazing, chock-full of reasonably-priced, under-the-radar wines. This is reason enough to spend some time at Carpe Diem.

The dining room feels a bit cold; we recommend that you snag a seat at the bar. The service is spot on and very friendly.

Overall, Carpe Diem is a good addition to Napa’s dining scene and great for budget-conscious visitors to the Napa Valley.
