What we like about the three-year-old Family Tasting Room co-op in Kenwood is that it affords guests an opportunity to taste wines produced in minuscule quantities, representing seven artisan winemakers from different locations throughout California—from as far south as Santa Barbara, up to the Russian River Valley.
The star wines represented here are the Collier Falls Zinfandel and Primitivo, if you are lucky enough to get some! Other wineries represented during our visit were:
- Wine Tree Farms, which produces Rhone wines.
- Tres Hermanas, which produces Italian wine varietals.
- SL Cellars, which makes some interesting flavored sparkling wines that are a wonderful aperitif on a hot day.
- Macrae Family Winery, with its attractive packaging, sources fruit from two outstanding vineyards: Bacigalupi and Stagecoach.
- David Noyes, whose wine production is so small you’ll be lucky if you get an opportunity to sample his Pinot Noir, Merlot, or Chardonnay.
- Cass, out of Paso Robles, which shows off some pretty delicious Rhone wines.
All these wines can be sampled under one roof in the heart of Sonoma, and your tasting fee is credited toward a purchase.
The tasting room has great amenities, including a well-stocked gift selection and a wonderful patio and picnic area. If you are visiting during the winter months, call ahead for the tasting room hours.
