Solbar, the Michelin-starred restaurant at the Solage Resort in Calistoga, is the perfect place to chill while exploring the Napa Valley.

Weather permitting, sit outside on the patio overlooking the pool, surrounded by beautifully manicured grounds. Dining alfresco is a wonderful, calming respite from the traffic and busy tasting rooms you are visiting. The menu is creative and full of fresh seasonal food options. What we liked most was how uncomplicated the menu and food is. No gimmicks, just very fresh food, perfectly prepared and artfully presented at a reasonable price for Napa Valley.

As we mentioned, the menu is seasonal so it changes frequently, but during our last visit we had the cheeseburger, mushroom flatbread, and a salad. Each dish was amazing in its simplicity, yet each had integrity, with depth of flavors and freshness.

The service was attentive without being intrusive, and the servers actually anticipated their guests’ needs: no need to prompt for beverage refills here.

Expect to rub shoulders with locals and winemakers alike at this comfort-able, chic restaurant. Definitely a must in Calistoga!
