Westin didn’t invent down comforters, but we can confirm that they are justifiably famous for their promise of “heavenly beds.”

This rather large, 180-room hotel is located across the river from down-town Napa and is situated in what real estate agents would charitably call “an area with great potential.” If your idea of a wine country vacation includes opening your patio door to vistas of grapevines and chateaus nestled on hillsides, then the Westin Verasa won’t work for you.

This beautiful facility is surrounded by industrial/commercial buildings and a parking lot across the street from the Napa Valley Wine Trains construction site. However, this location is clearly determined to be one of Napa’s next new hot spots for food lovers: just around the corner is Oxbow Market (great for lunch), The Model Bakery for a fast cup of coffee and pastries (excellent for a quick breakfast), and the Fatted Calf with its outstanding sandwiches and charcuterie (great for picnics).

At the hotel, we liked the gracious, knowledgeable, and efficient staff and we appreciated the beautiful grounds, including the pool and fitness areas. Our room had a nice, small but fully-functional kitchenette and the hotel offers complimentary wine tasting each evening.
